Artists in Residence Program at The Artists Enclave at I-Park

Application deadline: Jan 11, 2010. $25 application processing fee. Self-directed artists residencies will be offered from May through November 2010, with possible off-season sessions in April and December. Most sessions are four weeks in duration. Residencies will be offered to creative writers, visual (including digital) artists, music composers, environmental artists, landscape and garden designers, and architects. Work samples are evaluated through a competitive, juried process. I-Park is introducing a modest food program for 2010 where most, though not all, of the food will be provided. The facility is otherwise offered at no cost to accepted artists. I-Park is a 450-acre natural woodland retreat in rural East Haddam, Connecticut. Accommodations include comfortable private living quarters in an 1850s era farmhouse, shared bathroom facilities, and a private studio on the grounds. An abundance of power tools and equipment, site materials, an electric kiln, wireless Internet, and library facilities are provided. For additional project information, see Web site.

Call for Nominations: Clinton Jackson Coley Award for Books on Local History

Deadline: December 31, 2009. This award goes to the best book or pamphlet focusing on local historical concerns, including but not limited to the history of an Alabama community, town or county, or any institution therein (church, business, non-profit, etc.). Works published since January 2008 are eligible, and those written by lay or amateur historians are welcome. Call for Submissions: Vietnamese Children's Art & Poetry Exhibit

On behalf of Kent State University's Wick Poetry Center, KSU Art Galleries, and Soldier's Heart, and in collaboration with the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, the Vietnamese Children's Art Exhibit will debut for the first time in the United States in September of 2010 at Kent State University, then travel nationally. This exhibit will showcase a collection of Vietnamese children's artwork on themes of peace and war alongside the poems of grade school children, senior citizens, veterans, and established American poets. POSE AWARDS Nominations

Deadline: April 1. The Layman Group is always excited about any opportunity to recognize the work of young artists! The POSE AWARDS are their means of doing so, while providing Alabamas young artistic community with another source of incentive to further their crafts.
