Jim Murphy was educated at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Cincinnati. He teaches creative writing at the University of Montevallo, where he has also directed the Montevallo Literary Festival. His poems have appeared in Alaska Quarterly Review, Brooklyn Review, Fine Madness, Gulf Coast, Painted Bride Quarterly, The Southern Review, Texas Review, and TriQuarterly, among other journals. His chapbook, The Memphis Sun, published by Kent State University Press, won a Stan and Tom Wick Award. His honors include appointment as a Tennessee Williams Scholar at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference and University Scholar at the University of Montevallo. His first full-length poetry collection, Heaven Overland, was slated published by Kennesaw State University Press in 2009.
